| Excess Liability |
Nor Cal ReLiEF provides “excess” liability coverage to K-12 public schools in Northern California through a combination of self-insurance and transferred mechanisms, mainly reinsurance. The Authority currently self-insures its members’ claims up to a limit of $1 million on liability claims. For the three-year period that began on July 1, 1998, the Authority’s self-insurance limit on liability claims had been $100,000; before that it was $1 million. The Authority purchases reinsurance to cover claims that exceed its self-insured retention. Members choose member retained limits (“MRL’s”, or deductibles) between $5,000 and $250,000 per loss. |
